'06 Stoney Creek Rendezvous
|
|
(4/24/06)
The Stoney is a really fun class 3 play run in South-Western PA. Every year the Ben's Creek Canoe Club hosts the Stoney Creek Rendezvous, a low key whitewater festival based around a weekend of releases on the river. The festival includes all the other fun stuff as well including vendors, a silent auction, a live band, and lots of beer. With camping on site there is a lot of fun had by all.
(My 2nd Place Rock Trophy) This year the festival was again greeted by cold rainy weather. The rain did bring up the river considerably for Sunday and the sun even made an apperance for most of the day Sunday. There was a low key rodeo on Saturday and the rapid know as Scout was used for the Expert and Intermediate competitions. I managed a second place for the second year in a row in the Expert class. It was fun battling it out with two of my friends from team Pyranaha, Jeremy Lauks and Matt Sams.
(Sunny Sunday Afternoon at the Stoney Take-Out) The goal of the festival is to bring people together on this river and build awarness and money for a whitewater park at the festival site. From what I understand this project is well in the works and something to keep an eye on in the near future. Thanks to all the organizers and sponsors for a great event again this year. A special thanks to Rocky Mountain Kayak for thier continued support of Fluid kayaks and the Stoney Creek Rendezvous. See you on the river- Bryon |
